Infants

At Chesterfield Academy, we provide a nurturing environment where your precious baby can grow and learn. Our infant room is enriched with a wide range of materials to support all areas of development~ physical, social, emotional, and linguistic. The children are actively involved with their own learning process and have lots of one on one attention. Our teachers provide an environment that is safe, secure and loving. Our approach addresses the whole child and we are responsive to each child's needs, desires and uniqueness.

We know babies are born to learn! They are amazing learning individuals. They need many opportunities to be actively involved in their environment. The experiences infants have at this young age affect their ability to learn throughout their lives. Research shows that the period between birth and age three is critical to a child's success in school and life. Having the right experiences at the right time provides important developmental windows of opportunities! As your infant grows, Baby Signs sign language will be introduced. Baby Signs is a proven method of communication with children before speech is developed. Simple signs such as "more", "eat", and "all done" are learned through the repetition of saying the word while making the sign.

We recognize that children grow quickly at this stage. These precious days are only here for a short time. Daily reports keep you informed about your baby's day and their achievement of developmental milestones while here at Chesterfield Academy. Pictures taken by our caregivers are sent via email for you to enjoy while at work. These photos are also used for portfolios and in the classroom to create an environment that is familiar to the children. Twice a year Parent Teacher Conferences are held. During Parent Teacher conferences your child's teacher will discuss the developmental checklist for infants, go through your child's developmental portfolio, and be available to address any questions or concerns you may have.

Because each child in our infant program is on their own individual schedule, we have adopted a "lights-on policy" in our infant program. This aids in maintaining a safe and secure environment for your child and gives each child the ability to safely explore their environment even when others are sleeping.
